Ayew seeks revenge against Uruguay

Former Ghanaian international, Ibrahim Ayew, has urged the Black stars to get their revenge for their 2010 defeat against Uruguay when the two teams lock horns in their last group match.

Naija News recalls that Luis Suarez prevented the Ghanaian from advancing to the semi-finals in the dying seconds of the 2010 World Cup.

The goal would have meant that the West African nation broke a significant landmark by being the first African to get to the World Cup semifinals.

However, Luis Suarez handballed the goal on the line, received a red card, and the then Ghana forward, Asamoah Gyan, missed the ensuing penalty as he hit the ball on the crossbar.

Ayew indicated that he wants Ghana to get vengeance on Uruguay and Suarez in an interview with The Athletic.

“I thought we had won. I was a substitute, warming up behind that goal, and I ran onto the pitch to celebrate because I was sure the ball had crossed the line.

“I thought we had done it, the first African team ever to reach the semifinal of the World Cup,” he said.

“The whole of Ghana hates him [Luis Suarez], and the whole of Africa hates him. Oh yes, we hate him. And we want revenge.” he added.
