Hennessy Red Card against Iran

Wales Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was kicked out of a World Cup match after landing a head-high karate kick.

In the 2-0 loss to Iran, Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper saw the tournament’s first red card after raising a high-head kick against his opponent.

Late in the game, Iran’s Mehdi Taremi was collided with outside the area by Hennessey, who had rushed off his 18-yard box to stop the attacker from getting a through pass.

The Wales goalkeeper rushed off his line to confront the Iran striker before giving him a “karate kick” to the head.

With the help of the video assistant referee, the 35-year-old goalkeeper’s original yellow card was changed to a red one in the 86th minute (VAR).

Meanwhile, Iran won 2-0 in extra time in the second half, and ten-man Wales experienced heartache at the World Cup.

Roozbeh Cheshmi’s amazing strike in the eighth minute of extra time, after goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey’s red card, ultimately breached Wales’ defence.

Then, with what was virtually the game’s penultimate kick, Ramin Rezaeian scored Iran’s second goal, capping off another swift counterattack with a crisp finish over replacement goalkeeper Danny Ward.
