Gernot Rohr slams African teams for their poor performance

Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has stated his displeasure with the African countries competing at the 2022 FIFA World in Qatar following their world cup opening.

The Black Stars were the only African team to score goals during the opening round of games, and no team from the continent has recorded a victory.

Naija News recalls that former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, also expressed his disappointment, and revealed why the players have performed woefully so far at the World Cup tournament.

As previously reported by Naija News, the Netherlands trounced Senegal, the defending African champion, while Tunisia and Morocco drew scoreless matches with Denmark and Croatia, respectively.

However, Rohr predicted that France, the incumbent champion, will win in Qatar. According to The Nation, he said: “I am a little disappointed with the African teams. Senegal played a good match but lost in the end. Tunisia and Morocco both had good draws. Despite not scoring any goals, they were very solid.

“We hope that France will be able to defend the trophy. If Mbappe and Giroud are playing very well then France can hope,” he predicted.

The German expressed his desire for his nation to recover from a poor start and emphasized that many nations will impress well following the tournament’s first match.

“England was also not bad. But let us just wait because we are only in the first round of games. Let us hope for Germany, because many teams don’t start very well but get better as the tournament progresses.”
