‘Snapchat Filters’ – Reactions As Buhari, CBN Gov Emefiele Unveil New Naira Notes

The newly redesigned Naira notes unveiled on Wednesday (today) by President Muhammadu Buhari have stirred mixed reactions on and off social media.

Naija News reported earlier that President Buhari unveiled N200, N500, and N1000 new naira notes today ahead of the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, had announced earlier that there is no going back on the January 31st 2023, deadline to render the old naira notes unacceptable.

He urged Nigerians against holding on to the old naira notes.

Nigerians, however, have taken to social media to react to the changes in the country’s paper currency.

Naija News understands that the new naira notes have caused a lot of reactions on social media since they were unveiled.

Joining a host of others in reactions, 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, took to Twitter and wrote: “CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele and President Buhari just played Nigerians over the fraudulent so-called redesign of the Naira. Nothing was redesigned, just a change of dye. Crooks”

Also reacting, former senator of the 8th national assembly, Shehu Sani, said: “If it’s Naira colour, the CBN should have just engaged Snapchat.”
