37 Corpses Counted As Vehicles Collide On Maiduguri-Damaturu Road

At least thirty-seven bodies were counted after two vehicles collided along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road in Borno State.

Reports obtained by Naija News, on Wednesday (today), revealed that one of the vehicles was transiting from Abuja to Maiduguri and the other transiting from Maiduguri to Gaidam town in Yobe State.

Giving details of the incident, the Borno State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Utten Boyi, said the buses on speed caught fire after the collision, adding that the Command counted 37 corpses and most of them burnt beyond recognition.

“The accident happened around Jakana village, about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri,” Boyi said.

He said that his men collaborated with the Police operatives, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Fire Service men to evacuate the accident victims.

According to him, the police had also obtained a court order to carry out a mass burial for the deceased.

”Our personnel from Borno Police Command were involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident along Jos axis on their way to A/Ibom for the upcoming 13 Biennial Police Games UYO 2022 leaving 15 personnel with various degrees of injury while Pc Godiya and Pc Kubra paid a supreme price,” Muazu tweeted.
