A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has come out to give reasons why he said all is not well with Nigeria as the 2023 general election inches near.

Naija News reports that Fani-Kayode who said this on the microblogging platform Twitter revealed that Nigeria is on the brink.

The APC chieftain expressed worry about the statement uttered by the three apex ethnic groups in the country about Nigeria’s unity being negotiable.

The former minister’s reaction follows statements by Afenifere, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and Northern Elders Forum that the unity of Nigeria is negotiable.

Naija News recalls that the three apex ethnic groups were reported to have independently declared yesterday in Lagos state, at a public lecture themed, ‘Nationalism and nation-building in Nigerian history,’ that the country’s unity can be negotiated.

Director of Publicity of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr Hakeem Ahmed, at the gathering, said “Some Nigerian political leaders have said Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable. I don’t know who these people are, but I can tell you they are not of the North and they are not related to the NEF. “Nigeria’s unity is negotiable.”

While the President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, said, “Nigerian unity is definitely negotiable and must be re-negotiated for it to stand or survive the test of time.”

Afenifere’s leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo also said “It was said that the South-East must come to negotiate with the North because politics is a game of numbers. My case is – and I told people yesterday – the case for the East is not to beg for a favour; it is their right. Yet, each time I hear that they should go around because the North has the population, what fraudulent population? You can’t sell that to me.

“They tell us to work together but unfortunately because they now have produced a president at the helm of affairs, they say ‘no one can become president except you come to the North and unfortunately, some southerners have been brainwashed that they can’t do anything except they bow to the North. I don’t believe it.”

Naija News however learnt that Fani-Kayode reacted to these statements by saying it is as a signal that all is not well with the country.

He said when Nigeria’s three major ethnic groups, who have all presented candidates running for the presidency at the next year’s polls sound like this, then it’s only God that can help Nigeria.

The APC chieftain wrote, “When Afenifere, Ohanaeze and the Northern Elders Forum go to a conference, as they did yesterday, & say the unity of Nigeria is negotiable it means we are on the brink. And this just before an election in which each of the 3 largest tribes are presenting candidates? God help us.”
