Legendary Uruguayan Speaks About How "Happy" Benzema's Departure Has Made France's Players

Former Uruguayan international, Diego Lugano claims that Karim Benzema’s exclusion from the team for this year’s World Cup has made certain French players very happy.

There was significant dismay throughout most of the football world when it was reported on Saturday that Karim Benzema will not be present for the second straight World Cup.

It is anticipated that the French striker will be out for three weeks due to a quadriceps injury.

Due to his involvement in the blackmail of teammate Mathieu Valbuena, he was forced to miss the 2018 World Cup, which means that his last World Cup participation was in 2014.

Additionally, since Allan Simonsen in 1978, he will be the first current Ballon d’Or winner to miss the competition.

Lugano, who captained Uruguay to an amazing fourth-place finish at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, thinks some of his teammates are happy to see the Real Madrid player go.

The now-retired central defender, who spent two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain between 2011 and 2013, made the remarks to ESPN Brasil, which Marca reported.

“I am certain, because I was a teammate with some of them, (there are players from France) who are very happy with the departure of Benzema.

“This would never happen in Uruguay, Brazil or Argentina… It depends a lot on the way the team was put together and on the care that the coach has with the player profiles, not only technically, but [in terms of] personalities. It has a lot to do with do with that,” he said.
