NNPP Speaks On Kwankwaso, Atiku Alleged Alliance Hours To Presidential Election

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has rubbished rumours of any plan to step down for the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on Sunday in Lagos State during an interactive session with the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Kwankwaso urged his supporters to disregard the rumours on social media that he has stepped down for Atiku or any other candidate.

He stressed that he was different from other candidates for the 2023 presidential election and was sure of making Nigeria better if elected as president next year.

He lamented the huge burden Nigeria’s debt has become on the country, recommending that the debts need to be re-negotiated and plans put in place for it to be paid off in a manner that won’t negatively affect the nation.

“We have to sit down in negotiations and whatever it is, we have to have fresh air so that we can even pay them. These are things I believe that are necessary to do whatever we can to handle the debt issues,” he said.

Kwankwaso further stressed the need to get the private sector involved in reforming Nigeria’s economy adding that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) needs to be better managed “for the interest of each and everyone us.”

He added that his many years of experience has made him a better manager of resources.

“Of course, we are happy that it is now a law to make sure that the NNPC is moved forward and we are very committed to involving the private sector in this country.

“We will support the Bill and do whatever it takes to make sure that the oil and gas industry is better for the interest of each and everyone us,” he said.

The Constitution Is Not Our Problem

The NNPP candidate said while he is open to reforms, the constitution of the country is not the major problem of the country but those who handle the constitution.

He said: “We will be very happy to follow our process to get it (constitution review) done.”

“But the fact remain that from my own experience in the last two decades; the problem has not mainly been that of the constitution but the operators, which we believe by 2023 we will have the right people to handle the Constitution.”

Insecurity

Kwankwaso stressed the need to get more hands for the security agencies to enable them better tackle the challenges of insecurity plaguing the nation.

The former Kano State Governor said he plans to recruit about one million of policemen and one million military men if he becomes the president of Nigeria in 2023.

The fresh injection would “help solve the insecurity issues,” he stressed.
