2023: Presidential Election Is Not The Most Important - Peller

The member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives, Shina Peller has submitted that Nigerians attach too much importance to the office of the President.

Speaking in a statement on Saturday, Peller said the presidential election is not the most important election for the 2023 general election.

He told Nigerians to stop agitating and being anxious about who takes over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 because that is just one slot of many political offices and one person can’t make any meaningful change.

According to the lawmaker, what should interest Nigerians is how to develop a system that works such that the person in power would have to key into the system.

He, however, expressed confidence that the youths of the country can determine the next president in 2023 if they put their population to good use.

Peller said, “I believe that the presidential election is not the most important in Nigeria. What is most important now is to develop a system that works for everybody.

“A single man can not make up a system. The president is just a component of the system and can’t singlehandedly address critical issues affecting us as a country.”

It’s Too Early To Predict The Winner

The lawmaker added that it’s too early to predict who will emerge as the winner of the 2023 presidential election. He however added that things will become clearer by January 2023.

He said: “It is too early for anyone to predict that confidently, by January 1, 2023, people would know whose chances are brightest. The president is just one person out of the system, he can’t veto critical issues affecting us as a country.”
