Nollywood Mourns As Top Actor Dies

The Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning after one of its own, veteran actor and producer, Olamilekan Gbatami died.

Naija News reports that Olamilekan Gbatami died on Thursday morning, 18th November, 2022.

Before death, the Yoruba veteran had been battling lung cancer for over a year.

Announcing the death of the Yoruba actor, the deceased’s late colleague, actress Oluwaseyi Edun via her verified Instagram page shared his photo with the caption: “Rip Boss, can’t believe this, haaaa Gbatami.”

Meanwhile, another veteran filmmaker, Wale Fanu had recently died after a brief illness. 

Jide Bisayo, an associate of the late filmmaker announced the sad news on social media.

Before death, the 72-year-old veteran, who lived with sickle cell, was the managing director of one of the foremost production houses in Nollywood, Cinekraft.

Announcing the death of the veteran filmmaker, Bisayo noted that Cinekraft contributed to the birth of Nollywood.

Busayo wrote, “In the beginning while Nollywood was still an embryo, there was CINEKRAFT. Cinekraft in no small way contributed to the birthing of the nascent industry.

“Behind Cinekraft administration and production management was one indefatigable, never tiring creative soul, my boss, Wale Fanu. Uncle Wales (as I like calling you), rest in the bosom of the Lord.

“A titan has gone home indeed!”
