Nigerian soldiers have been stranded as a flood disaster ravaged their military base in Malam Fatori, North-East of Borno State.

Naija News reports that Malam Fatori lies close to Komadougou Yobe river and the shores of Lake Chad by Abadam and shares a border with Chad and the Niger Republic.

According to a Counter Insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the flood menace has added to the harsh conditions suffered by the soldiers battling Boko Haram insurgents and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

He said the troops have been remarkably brave in resisting persistent attacks from ISWAP fighters who are deploying various types of weapons including improvised explosive devices, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades, and gun trucks.

It is understood that several weeks into the floods, hundreds of residents in the area especially Internally Displaced Persons, are struggling to find shelter, food, and clothing with many settling in open ground under appalling conditions.

As of the time of filing this report, most parts of the town are largely inaccessible because of the floodwater.
