Fernandes and Eriksen Condemn World Cup Timing for Qatar 2022

Two Manchester United midfielders, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen have criticized Qatar for its World Cup timing and Human rights issues.

Naija News recalls that the two midfielders teamed up for the Red Devil’s opening goal against fulham in their penultimate match before the World Cup in Qatar.

The Match ended in a 2-1 victory for Erik Ten Hag’s men after the youngster, Alejandro Garnacho sealed the Victory for the Manager in the stoppage time.

In addition to being important players for their clubs, Fernandes and Eriksen were named in the World Cup squad for their countries.

They object to Qatar hosting the event, and Fernandes took the initiative to voice his displeasure on Sunday.

Fernandes said to Sky Sports, “It’s strange, it’s not exactly the time we want to be playing in the World Cup.”

The tournament’s scheduling, which was changed from June/July to November/December owing to the weather in the host country, has got everyone talking and also made the midfielder uneasy.

Fernandes added, “We know the surroundings of the World Cup, what has been in the past few weeks and months, about the people who have died in the construction of the stadiums.”

Fernandes asserts in the interview that since football affects so many people on a worldwide scale, it should be appreciated and should not be associated with any manner of inequity.

Eriksen agreed with Fernandes’ statement, “I totally agree with Bruno. It’s been written a lot and a lot of focus on how the World Cup has happened and why it’s in Qatar, I think everyone agrees it hasn’t gone the right way.”
