Amusan is among the top five candidates for the 2022 World Athletics Award.

Nigerian Athlete, Tobi Amusan, was named in the top five finalists for the women’s World Athlete of the Year award.

Monday saw the publication of the complete shortlist on the World Athletics website.

The only female African that qualified for the esteemed individual prize is Amusan.

She will compete for the prize with Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela, Sydney McLaughlin of the United States, Kimberly Garcia of Peru, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica.

The finalists were chosen using a three-way voting method, claims World Athletics.

While fans entered their choices online through the World Athletics social media channels, where a record 1.3 million votes were recorded, the World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family submitted their ballots by email.

The World Athletics Council’s vote determined 50% of the outcome, while the votes of the World Athletics Family and the general public each determined 25% of the outcome.

On December 5th, as part of the 2022 World Athletics Awards, the World Athletes of the Year will be revealed on World Athletics’ social media channels.

Amusan had a standout year in 2022, winning the 100-meter hurdles at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, the Diamond League, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the African Championship, and setting a new world mark of 12.12 seconds.
