Willock Struck For The Magpies To Seal A Victory Against Chelsea

Joe Willock scored for the Magpies to secure a 1-0 win over Chelsea as Newcastle maintained their impressive streak.

Thanks to a convincing victory against The Blues and a wonderful goal from the Englishman, Newcastle increased their chances of qualifying for Europe.

Eddie Howe’s revitalised team, who had dropped to fourth after Tottenham’s victory against Leeds earlier in the day, recaptured third place before the World Cup break and will be playing in the Champions League for the first time in 21 years if they continue with the run.

With England striker Callum Wilson starting on the bench due to sickness, the team defeated an admittedly out-of-form Chelsea for the sixth time straight in the Premier League with a steadiness and fluidity that their opponents were unable to equal.

After exerting considerable pressure on Graham Potter’s team in the first half and letting two excellent opportunities pass him by just after the interval, Willock eventually made a breakthrough when he curled in from 18 yards after a strong run by Miguel Almiron.

Without Raheem Sterling and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, a young Chelsea team improved in the second half once Christian Pulisic was added.

Conor Gallagher’s shot was superbly saved by Nick Pope after a run by Pulisic, but they were unable to defeat a well-prepared Newcastle team.

Following Liverpool’s victory against Southampton, Chelsea has dropped to eighth place in the Premier League standings, eight points behind fourth-place Tottenham.
