The spokesperson for the Labour Party Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of stashing away taxpayers’ money for election.

Tanko was reacting to a statement made by the Chief Spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo (SAN), that the ruling party wasn’t running its campaign with stolen funds.

Speaking with the Punch on Saturday, Keyamo accused the PDP of corruption, adding that the opposition party has been trying to muscle the APC with funds stolen during their time in power.

He said the APC government was still recovering the funds looted by the PDP for 16 years, stressing that the opposition party should be ashamed of itself.

In a chat with the Punch, Tanko said the APC  is just like the PDP in terms of corruption, saying that the ruling party should stop lying that Nigerians will willingly donate to them.

Tanko said members of the ruling party are the ones stashing away government funds to run campaigns and using state-owned media and billboards to intimidate the opposition.

He argued that the LP could not match the APC in terms of campaign funding, adding that the ruling party has corrupt and overzealous leaders who will do anything to undermine the election.

He said, “The APC cannot deceive us that Nigerians will willingly donate to them. No. They are the ones stashing away government funds and using state-owned media and billboards. We have seen their bullion vans here and there. Peter Obi cannot be accused of doing the same.

“We won’t engage in heavy spending like these other people in APC who have stolen Nigerian people’s money. We will limit our campaigns and funding to our capacity. We are only going to match them with our little resources so that the campaign won’t be starved of funds. That is how things are done all over the world, except in cases where you have crowd-funding.
