Haaland speaks on why he did not play for England national team

Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland has given reasons why he chose to play for Norway instead of England.

Naija News reports that If Erling Haaland had initially chosen to represent his natal nation, he would very well have been donning an England jersey at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The Norwegian would have previously been qualified to represent England if he had desired.

He was born in Leeds during his father Alf-time Inge’s time at Elland Road.

However, the talented Manchester City forward claims that choosing Norway was just ‘natural’ for him to do so given that his family moved to Bryne when he was just three years old.

Haaland, while speaking to Goal, said, “I lived here [England] for three-and-a-half/four years and I lived in Norway for such a long time, so then it was natural for me to choose Norway.

“You never know how it would be if maybe my father played longer in England or whatever, maybe I would be English, I don’t know.

“But yeah, I’m Norwegian and I’m proud of it,” said the forward.

The goal machine has scored 21 goals in 23 games for his country, but will not be in action at the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup after the Scandinavian country failed to qualify.

Since joining City in the summer, the Norwegian talisman has dominated the Premier League, tallying an astounding 23 goals in 17 games.

The gifted striker will be on track to shatter a lot of goal-scoring records in the English domestic league after the World Cup break.

While some of his City colleagues go to Qatar to compete in this year’s World Cup, Haaland will be forced to observe.
