Matawalle Reacts To Allegations Of Money Laundering, Invites EFCC To Search Property

Matawalle Reacts As CBN Orders Usage Of Old N500, N1000 Naira Notes

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has denied a media report that billions of naira were discovered in some of his properties in the state.

Naija News reports that Matawalle was reacting to a news report alleging that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) discovered billions of naira stashed in houses belonging to him.

In a statement on Thursday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, the governor said the allegation was made to tarnish his hard-earned reputation and the progress he has made in the last three years in office.

He, therefore, demanded that the report be pulled down, adding that he would not allow anyone to ridicule him before the people and relegate his administration’s efforts.

Matawalle also invited the EFCC to search the property where he is alleged to have concealed large sums of money, stressing that he has nothing to hide.

The statement reads: “The offer to the EFCC became necessary to counter the designed connivance by enemies of Zamfara and vanguards of disruption to rupture his hard-earned reputation and the progress he had made as a governor.

“The government will not take it lightly with anyone who tries to add salt to the security injury inflicted on the good people of Zamfara by tarnishing the good image of the governor.

“Governor Matawalle has been running the state in the most responsible and trustworthy manner since taking office as the governor.”

Naija News recalls the EFCC is investigating Governor Matawalle over allegations of money laundering and siphoning of state funds.

The EFCC had said that it is investigating the governor over allegations that the governor was allegedly “using state funds to acquire several properties worth billions of naira in Abuja.
