Owo in the Owo local government of Ondo State is under heavy security surveillance as the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu prepares to bury his mother, Evangelist Grace Akeredolu.

Naija News reports that the governor’s hometown, Owo is currently flooded with men from various security operatives including the Amotekun Corps.

Other security formations patrolling in and out of Owo include the Department of the State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

The tight security in Akeredolu’s hometown is said to ensure the safety of the various dignitaries to come for the burial activities.

The governor’s mother, Evangelist Akeredolu was reported to have died in her sleep on September 15, 2022, and she is to be interred in Owo.

However, Naija News gathered that the Ondo state Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, who spoke earlier in Akure, the state capital, noted that heavy security presence was to ensure visitors coming for the burial are not molested.

He said security would also be beefed up in other parts of the state to ensure no security gaps are created.

The Ondo Amotekun commander said “The function bringing dignitaries to Owo is being taken care of security-wise by all security agencies in the state. A joint patrol team comprising men of the NSCDC, DSS, Amotekun, Army and the police are on the ground. We are to ensure visitors can come in and out without being molested. We will not create any security gaps in the towns.”
