Costa Rica, in preparation for the World Cup, trounced the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2 goals to nil in San Jose.

Naija News reports that the Super Eagles and Costa Rica met for the first time ever at the Senior level in tie that prepares the Central American side for the global tournament

Oscar Duarte and Kendall Waston scored goals in each half to give Costa Rica the victory.

Former Arsenal striker, Joel Campbell, provided the assists for both goals.

Only players from the Super Eagles’ home country were on display for the friendly match, which was held at the Estadio Nacional.

Duarte’s goal in the seventh minute gave Costa Rica the lead, giving them a solid start.

And Waston increased their advantage in the 73rd minute to help his side go back to winning ways following their last match, which was also a friendly against South Korea in September and finished 2-2.

While the Super Eagles have now lost three games in a row, they hope to get back to winning ways in their next match against Portugal, who will also compete in this year’s World Cup.

The contest with the Portuguese is scheduled for Thursday, November 17, at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
