Five Daughters Of Ex-Zamfara Accountant-General Regain Freedom

Five daughters of a former Accountant-General in Zamfara State, Abubakar Furfuri, who were abducted seven months ago, have regained their freedom.

Naija News recalls that the five ladies were abducted from their home in the Furfuri community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara in March.

In October, the bandits released a video showing the girls carrying firearms and threatened to recruit them into banditry if the ransom they demanded was not paid.

However, it is not exactly clear when they regained their freedom or if any ransom was paid to facilitate the release of the girls.

But in a statement on Monday night, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media, and Communications, Zailani Bappa, confirmed the release of the girls.

Bappa claimed that a combined effort of the police and other security operatives led to the rescue of the girls unharmed.

He said the victims met with Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State where they were received at the Government House in Gusau on Monday.

The statement read in part: “The five girls were in captivity for the past seven months.

“The combined efforts of the Police and other security operatives, supported by the State Security Council, saw to the final rescue of the girls, all of them in their secondary school ages.”

In his remark, Governor Matawalle commended the security forces for their efforts in rescuing the girls made and urged them to put an end to banditry in the state.

The governor noted that intelligence reports showed that the girls were abducted successfully with the help of informants who were either family members or close associates.

Matawalle also appealed to citizens of the state to “courageously fight informants” by reporting suspects to the authorities without fear.

“Without informants, bandits will be strongly incapacitated and will easily be defeated,’’ he said.

He directed officials to take the girls to the hospital for proper medical checks and counseling before reuniting them with their parents.
