The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has promised to be in charge of his administration and be more responsible to Nigerians if elected President in 2023.

He made the pledge on Sunday in Abuja at a town hall meeting organised by Arise Television and the Centre for Democracy and Development for presidential candidates in which he spoke about security issues in Nigeria.

Speaking against the backdrop of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, Obi said the failure of the current government and the security agencies to act on available intelligence resulted in the unfortunate incident.

The former Anambra State Governor said security agencies failed to be proactive which eventually resulted in the March 28 incident in which terrorists killed some travellers, injured some and kidnapped others during the famous Abuja-Kaduna train attack.

Speaking on the incident, Obi said: “I believe there was a failure of intelligence processing. Because before it happened, from information available, there were already reports of insecurity on the corridor, as well as previous attempts that were ignored.”

He however promised to take responsibility for security issues if elected President, vowing to be the Commander-In-Chief.

“As president and commander in chief, the decision and the buck stops on my desk. I will be responsible to all Nigerians. I will be in charge,” the LP candidate added.

Naija News recalls terrorists attacked a train on its way from Abuja to Kaduna on March 28, 2022.

After a series of negotiations in which the victims were released in batches, the last batch of abductees were released on October 5, after several days in the kidnappers’ den.
