Reno Omokri, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the greatest Nigerian alive or dead.

Taking to his Twitter account on Saturday, Omokri said appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to consider putting Obasanjo’s image on one of the redesigned naira notes.

Omokri said Obasanjo has contributed a lot to the nation with the payment of entire foreign debts during his tenure as President and also entrenched democracy in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

The former Presidential aide also argued that Obasanjo should be honoured by the Federal Government due to his role in brokering a peace deal in Ethiopia.

He wrote: “I appeal to the Central Bank of Nigeria to consider putting President Obasanjo’s image on the redesigned naira. He is the greatest Nigerian living or dead. He and Atiku paid our entire foreign debts. He entrenched democracy and has now brought peace to Ethiopia.

“Obasanjo ended the Nigerian Civil War, and Liberian Civil War, prevented a civil war in São Tomé, and has now ended the Ethiopia-Tigray Civil War, and someone is saying that the CBN should not put him (his image) on the redesigned naira note because he is still alive? Nonsense!

“South Africa put Mandela’s image on their currency while he was still alive. Benin Republic put living Olympians on her currency. Many other nations have living people on their currencies. President Obasanjo deserves the honour for what he has done for Nigeria and Africa!.”

Recall that the Ethiopian government, on Wednesday, agreed to end the two-year conflict with rebel forces in the country’s northern Tigray region after a meeting in South Africa.

The meeting was convened by the African Union (AU) through Obasanjo who is the lead AU envoy on the matter.

Other AU envoys are ex-Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, and a former Deputy President of South Africa, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.
