A Yoruba socio-economic youth group, identified as the Southwest Renaissance Group has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, over the current crisis rocking the leadership of the socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere.

Naija News reports that the Yoruba youth group alleged that Tinubu has a record of always causing division within Afenifere and that it wasn’t the first time.

The group’s convener, Olaitan Abdul Salam in a statement cited that Tinubu had done the same with Afenifere in 2002 to achieve his second-term ambition as Lagos governor.

The group’s reaction comes after the power tussle between the leadership of Afenifere, Cheif Ayo Adebanjo who had earlier declared the groups support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and the endorsement of All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu by Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

Abdul Salam who described Tinubu as “a perennial divider-in-chief” and a “constant divider of brethren,” warned Yoruba people about supporting his 2023 presidential bid.

He said “We are not surprised by what is currently playing out, we know him too well as a constant divider of brethren, In 2002, this same Bola Tinubu divided Afenifere to achieve his second term ambition as Lagos governor.

“He divided the Yoruba Council of Elders in 2015 to control the Yoruba nation, and he has again divided Afenifere because of his 2023 presidential ambition.

“We call on voters from the Yoruba-dominated states to rise up and save our land. We must rescue our land from this perennial divider-in-chief and ensure that the Yoruba interest in Nigeria’s politics should not be driven by ethnicity but by the basic credential of electing a president who qualifies for an Omoluabi.”
