Second Abuja Airport Runway Ready Next Year – Minister

The second Abuja International Airport Runway project worth N92 billion would be ready before ending of next year, says Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Sen. Hadi Sirika.

During a meeting with National Assembly joint committees in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister disclosed that the runway would be ready for use before the exit of the incumbent regime.

Speaking during an oversight visit to the airport by the joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives led by Senator Abiodun Olujimi and Honourable Nnolim Nnaji, Sirika assured that the construction company in charge of the project had gone far to ensure it met up with the stipulated time.

The Minister, who conducted members of the committees of the two chambers of the National Assembly around the ongoing projects at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, disclosed that the contractor for the second runway, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company, had been fully mobilised.

CCECC project manager Yang Yantao, while responding to Nnaji’s demand for assurance that the runway would be on schedule, stressed that with proper funding, the CCECC would deliver the runway and all the components in six months.

If I Win The Election, I Will Sell All The National Oil Refineries To Investors – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, said on Wednesday that if he becomes president, he will sell all Nigerian oil refineries to businessmen.

Naija News reports that Atiku stated this during a special interview with the Voice of America during a visit to Washington.

“My position on this is not something new; I already said years ago I will sell them,” Atiku said in an interview with the head of VOA’s Hausa Department, Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto.

Regarding the problem of oil theft in southern Nigeria, Atiku, who held the position of vice president between 1999-2007, he would use his power as a president to deal with the problem.

“This is a different problem, we need to figure out how we can use government influence to stop it because there is a real cooperation from the NNPC workers and the security agencies that have been given the right to look after the roads or Oil pipelines are being laid,” Atiku said.

Nigeria has four oil refineries in Kaduna, Warri and Fatakwal, which are not working properly because they need repairs.

As a result, most of the crude oil used in the country is imported from foreign countries, Naija News reports.
