2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria's Super Eagles Opponents Revealed

The Super Eagles of Nigeria may replace Tunisia if FIFA decides to kick out the Carthage Eagles from the upcoming World Cup tournament.

The football governing body had warned Tunisia that their team may be excluded from the upcoming World Cup in Qatar if their government intervenes in footballing matters.

There are possibilities that some countries that qualified for the 2022 World Cup might not feature in the tournament due to some controversy.

Ukraine had called on FIFA to exclude Iran which is in the same group as England from the tournament due to their alleged role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

FIFA had warned Tunisia following a recent comment by the Minister of Youth and Sports in the country, Kamel Deguiche regarding the dissolution of the federal bureaux, which can also include the football federation.

The football governing body believes Deguiche has the intention to interfere in the running of Tunisia’s Football Federation (FTF).

FIFA in its reaction to the development forwarded a letter to the FTF about its concerns to which they expect a hasty response.

If FIFA does not receive the clarity they need regarding Deguiche’s comments, Tunisia risk being banned from the 2022 World Cup.

Kenya and Zimbabwe have already received suspensions from FIFA for governmental interference over the past year.

There are speculations over who could replace Tunisia at the World Cup if they are indeed suspended by FIFA.

There are possibilities that Tunisia will be replaced by a fellow member of the African member association (CAF).

Nigeria is the highest-ranked CAF member that failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Mali may also have a shout of replacing Tunisia as they were beaten by the Eagles of Carthage 1-0 over two legs in their World Cup qualifier earlier this year.

Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are yet to react to the development.
