Jonathan Bags Honorary Degree At Bowen University

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, will be conferred with an honorary doctorate this weekend at Bowen University, Naija News learnt.

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bowen University, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, confirmed this at a press conference on Monday, October 31, 2022.

The private varsity owned and operated by the Nigerian Baptist Convention had just graduated 59 students with first-class degrees. All, including those with honours, would be awarded at the university’s convocation on Saturday.

Speaking today ahead of the ceremony, the VC told elites at the press that a total of 942 students would graduate with various classes of degrees at the convocation ceremony.

On Jonathan’s account, Ogunwole said the former leader would be conferred with a doctorate in Public Administration for his peaceful disposition while in office.

Ogunwole said, “The hallmark of this convocation is the conferment of Honorary Degrees (Honoris usa) on distinguished individuals.

“His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, will be conferred the Doctor of Public Administration degree.

“His Excellency, Dr Jonathan is recognised as a humble public servant and politician who has positively impacted humanity through good governance.

“His mantra, My ambition is not worth the blood of any single Nigerian’ has come to stand the test of time. This noble man graciously took the bow from office.

“Deacon Nebolisa Arah will be conferred the degree of Doctor of Entrepreneurship. He is an astute businessman, silent philanthropist, mentor to many, a lover of Jesus Christ and a consummate gentleman.

“Also, the late Rev. Dr William Tolbert Jnr (Doctor of Business Administration), the 20th President of Liberia and the first African to serve as President of the Baptist World Alliance.

“Dr Tolbert was an exceptional religious figure with distinct moral and exemplary character in leadership. He was a peace lover and peacemaker. During the Civil war, Dr Tolbert made moves to broker peace.”
