Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has reportedly ordered the release of four prison inmates in the state.

The convicts, whose identities were revealed as Abdullahi Haruna, Usman Ahmed, Mohammed Sani and Khalillullahi Mohammed, were reportedly freed in order of the state leader to commemorate Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Anniversary.

A statement made available to newsmen on Monday quoted El-Rufai as saying that based on the powers conferred on him by the constitution, the prisoners are now allowed to return to society to start a new life.

The statement also noted that the release of the prisoners is as a customary gesture of compassion exercised by Governor El-Rufai, based on Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution.
