Following the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Bola Tinubu by the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, yesterday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, several reactions have trailed the decision of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group.

Reactions had earlier come from the camp of other political parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), as Tinubu’s endorsement, was faulted by other parties who said Afenifere should have invited all presidential candidates to listen to what they have to do if elected.

Against that backdrop, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2023 general election, Omoyele Sowore, has also reacted to the endorsement, saying Afenifere can’t decide for the whole of the southwest.

Naija News reports that Sowore was reported to have said both the ‘teams A and B’ of the Afenifere group have goofed, noting that “they can not decide for the South-West.”

According to him, he was sure that the southwest would always vote their conscience, adding that he believes that the region is fiercely independent to fall for these crooked endorsements by the group.

Sowore said, “Afenifere TEAM ‘A’ & Afenifere ‘B’ ought to know they goofed, they can’t sit in their living rooms and endorse candidates on behalf of South-West, they are too fiercely independent to fall for these crooked endorsements. They’ll always vote their conscience!”

Meanwhile,  Naija News had earlier reported that the camp of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the endorsement of Tinubu, by leaders of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.

Naija News reported on Sunday that Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and some South West leaders endorsed Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

The spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation, Daniel Bwala, while reacting to the development said Tinubu’s endorsement is faulty.

He said the absence of Adebanjo and others is an indication that the endorsement was faulty.

Bwala condemned the Afenifere leaders for inviting only Tinubu among all other presidential candidates.

He noted that they could have hosted other presidential candidates to listen to their plans ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The spokesman said, “In what seemed like the crawling of a rat at night to steal meat from the pot, Tinubu paid a strange visit to Pa Fasoranti; strange because it was not an organised setting of the usual meeting of the highly respected Afenifere; needless to say the leader of the group Pa Adebanjo and the secretary were obviously absent when he went to in a Gestapo manner.

“First off, the Afenifere we know has through their leader made known their position as to who they support and it was certainly not Tinubu. Secondly, if it were a meeting seeking to know the right person to support or endorse amongst the candidates it ought to have at least invited the leading candidates to hear their take on what plans they have for the country that caters to the interests of Afenifere.”
