EPL: Manchester United To Offer De Gea A Huge Pay Cut

Manchester United is reportedly looking to offer David de Gea a new contract that comes with a huge salary slash.

With manager Erik ten Hag still not confident that the Spanish goalkeeper is the proper fit for his system, United is extending a new contract to him on less favourable terms.

Recall that the Spaniard joined the Red Devils in 2011, he has been United’s first-choice goalie, and he is on pace to surpass the club’s all-time top-ten appearance record.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s contract expires this summer, and it’s unclear if United will extend it since the Dutch boss is still not satisfied that the goalie suits his system per Daily Mail.

According to The Athletic, the 31-year-old will have to accept a considerable pay drop from his current weekly salary of £375,000 in order to stay at Old Trafford.

“We didn’t make a decision on him but what I can say is that I am really happy with David de Gea as a keeper.” the Dutch manager said while speaking on De Gea’s contract.

“His first two performances of the season were not his best but after you see he brings us a lot for the defence department, gives stability and as a person I like him – I can cooperate with him really well. But first we go to the winter and then we will talk about how to deal with this.”

However, according to the same reports (The Athletic), Ten Hag’s side is reportedly eyeing goalkeepers like Porto’s Diogo Costa and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon as they search for a new keepers in the future.
