The wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N10 million naira to victims of floods in Benue State.

Naija News understands that the former Governor of Lagos State’s wife led a delegation of women on a presidential campaign team tour to the state on Monday, particularly to identify with victims and present them with relief items.

Tinubu was accompanied to the state by the wife of the former Governor of Borno State and the vice presidential candidate, Nana Shettima, who also donated a sum of N10million to the victims.

In her remark, Mrs Tinubu told Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, that they were in the state to commiserate with the residents affected by the unfortunate floods incident.

Tinubu said the homewrecking floods across states have brought about suffering and pain for the people, hence the women’s campaign team have seen it necessary to embark on sympathy visits and donate relief materials to states affected by the flood before it kickstarts the 2023 presidential campaigns.

After her address, Tinubu presented the relief items and announced a 10 million Naira cash donation to support 200 individuals with 50,000 Naira each to enable them to engage in small-scale businesses.

In his response, Governor Ortom appreciated the delegation for identifying with the victims through the state government despite belonging to different political parties.

Naija News understands that a symbolic presentation of relief materials sent to the state by Nigeria’s First Lady and grand patron of the women’s campaign team, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, was also delivered by the campaign team.

The items were collected on behalf of the victims by the wife of the Benue State governor, Eunice Ortom.

Also present at the event held at the presidential lodge at Benue Peoples House in Makurdi were the State’s APC governorship candidate, Hyacinth Alia and his running mate, Sam Ode.

The women’s team in their joint remark expressed optimism that the relief items, including cartons of noodles, spaghetti, macaroni, sugar, beverages, rubber cups and disposable plates, will provide succour to the victims.

Mrs Tinubu also urged those affected by the flood not to be weighed down by the situation but to continue to hold on.

On her part, Governor Ortom’s wife assured that the relief materials she donated to the state will be judiciously distributed to the victims of the flood.

She, on behalf of the government and people of the state, expressed appreciation to Senator Tinubu for the visit to identify with the flood victims, stating that her visit rekindled hope in the flood victims.

Also, the state governor mandated the Executive Secretary, of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Emmanuel Shior, to ensure judicious distribution of the relief materials to only those who have been affected by the flood.
