WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons, 11 Others Qualify For Tournament (See List)

The Republic of Ireland’s head coach, Vera Pauw has stated that her team will not be intimidated by the Super Falcons of Nigeria following the draw for the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup tie.

Naija News recalls a draw was held on Saturday at the Aotea Center in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup draw placed the debutantes in Group B against Nigeria, Canada, and Australia.

On July 31, Pauw’s team will play the Super Falcons in what is said to be their first international meeting at Lang Park in Brisbane in their final group match.

The Ireland boss, via her country’s FA website, said, “That opening game [versus Australia], wow – it’s fantastic. There’s a huge Irish community in Australia and I think a lot of people over there will face a bit of a dilemma over who they support in that one.

“It’s a bit of a shame that we’re drawn in the toughest teams in Pot 4 in Nigeria, but we won’t fear anyone. It’s a tough group but a very exciting one”, said Pauw.

The Philippines, Vietnam, the Republic of Ireland, Morocco, and Zambia are also part of the debutants of the Women’s World Cup.
