Super Eagles Striker, Awoniyi Makes Premier League History For Nottingham

Super Eagles Forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has become the first player to score in his first three premier league starts for Nottingham Forest at home.

Naija News recalls that the Nigerian International put on an outstanding performance against his former club, Liverpool at the City Ground Stadium.

Awoniyi spent seven years at Liverpool after joining the club in 2015, but he never played in a match for the English team.

He played for Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent, and Mainz during his numerous loan stints before being finally signed by Union Berlin.

Liverpool wasted several opportunities, they could have easily given up a second goal in stoppage time when Alisson Becker was stuck up the field, but Brennan Johnson hit the post.

Following the 1-0 loss, the Nigerian was voted the Man Of The Match by the club supporters via their Twitter account

After the game, Awoniyi said to BT Sports “I think this team will stick together; we’re a family; the fans are always with us; we just have to keep on going.

“I was looking forward to playing Liverpool because they signed me when I was 18 and it was an emotional game for me. For me, I think it’s a good game for my team. We had the plan to stay compact, and in the end, we won. I’m very happy about it,” he stressed.

The striker hopes to build on this impressive performance when Forest takes on stubborn Arsenal on October 30, 2022.
