An erstwhile Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has urged electorates to shun same faith ticket in the upcoming general elections.

Aliyu said this while welcoming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku/Okowa presidential group at his residence in Minna.

The former governor opined that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is a taboo to Nigeria’s unity.

He described Muslim-Muslim candidature as a time bomb to the unity of the country which would amount to injustice and lack of fairness.

Aliyu argued that Nigeria consists of two major religious faith, Christianity and Islam, and such a tendency will throw the country into more chaos.

His words, “As a nationalist, and a Muslim, such is a sentiment that would encourage divide and rule without a sense of reasoning and respect for Christians and pleaded with all well meaning Nigerians to reject the same faith ticket in its entirety.

“As a Muslim, I would not have thought of voting for anything like Christian/Christian ticket and I wondered why the ruling party would ever conceive what they would not take if presented to any of them individually or collectively.

“And, anybody who is supporting same faith ticket, be it Muslim or Christian, does not mean well for Nigeria because doing so only amounts to promoting; injustice, lack of fairness and equity for adherents of other religions.”
