BREAKING: EndSARS Protesters Begin Procession As Police Take Over Lekki Toll Gate

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have taken over the Lekki Toll Gate in anticipation of members of the #EndSARS movement converging on the area.

Naija News reports that today marks the second anniversary of the Lekki shooting and the disbandment of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria police.

Earlier, Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz had announced a memorial procession to mark the second anniversary of the #EndSARS through a flyer on his Instagram page yesterday.

The flyer said the procession cars would pass through the toll gate, waving the Nigerian flags while chanting #EndSARS.

However, the police have vowed to uphold a court order that ruled that no person should converge at the Lekki tollgate for whatever reason.

As of the time of filing this report, EndSARS protesters have begun the memorial procession to mark the second anniversary of the killing of some Nigerian youths at the Lekki Tollgate.

The procession which began around the tollgate was led by Falz and comedian cum actor, DeboAdedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, and other celebrities.

Heavy policemen and other security agents had earlier taken over the tollgate with about 25 police cars and one black maria on the ground.

Also, police anti-riot vehicles, water canon trucks and one black maria can be seen at both sides of the toll gate.

However, a Lagosian identified as Desmond Jacob was picked up by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

He claimed that he was among peaceful protesters that converged at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020, the day of the shooting that led to the loss of lives of peaceful protesters.

Jacob could be seen kneeling down in front of the toll gate crying before police officers came and picked him up.

After interrogation, he was released and asked to leave the toll gate.
