Buhari Getting Ready To Vacate Office, Orders SGF, Ministers To Prepare Transition Documents

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered his aides to commence proper preparation and documentation ahead of his departure from office come 2023.

Getting ready for his second tenure to end, the Nigerian leader on Tuesday directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha to press seriously with the quarterly review process and assessment of ministries for the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

This according to him, will form part of the transition documents of his administration to the incoming government after the 2023 presidential polls.

“Our collective goal is to map out a transition plan for the incoming administration to ensure proper documentation of all the policies, programmes and projects of government with an up-to-date status of implementation,’’ the Nigerian leader said at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Ministerial Performance Review Retreat in Abuja yesterday.

The directive, Naija News understands preceded Buhari’s signing of Executive Order 012 on Improving Performance Management, Coordination and Implementation of Presidential Priorities.

He ordered all ministers and permanent secretaries to ensure that the performance reports of their ministries were submitted on a quarterly basis to the Office of the SGF for review by the Central Delivery Coordination Unit to achieve the objective.

“The outcome of these reviews would be made available for my consideration,” the president reiterated.

Do Not Abandon The Business Of Governance For 2023 Campaigns

At the event, President Buhari also warned ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of government agencies to not abandon the business of governance for electioneering, noting that such infractions will be taken seriously.

The president observed that campaigns have begun towards the 2023 general elections and everyone will be busy.

He, however, warned participants at the retreat to pay all needed attention to the business of governance amid the political tussles.

“Consequently, all ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of agencies must remain focused in the discharge of their duties, as any infraction will be viewed seriously.

“Our collective goal is to map out a transition plan for the incoming administration to ensure proper documentation of all the policies, programmes and projects of government with an up-to-date status of implementation,’’ Daily Trust quoted the president as saying.
