1. Nigeria’s Inflation Rises To 20.77 %

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has today disclosed in its monthly report that Nigeria’s inflation rate hit 20.77 % in the month of September 2022.

According to the report, titled ‘inflation rate rose to 20.77% in September 2022, on a year–on–year basis, the rate increased from 20.52 % in August 2022 to 20.77 % in September 2022, as compared to 16.63 %in September 2021.

NBS noted that the inflation rate will continue to remain high this year as a result of the flood in some states, which has destroyed crops and farmlands.

Naija News gathered that the report said the jump in the consumer price index (CPI) was triggered by an increase in food inflation due to higher prices paid by Nigerians to purchase bread and cereals, potatoes, yam, oil, and fat.

It advanced that the food inflation rate in September 2022 was 23.34 % compared with the 19.57 % recorded in September 2021 and 23.12% in August 2022.

2. El-Rufai: Turning Rotten Situation Into A Bad One Is An Achievement – Tinubu Declares

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu has reacted to the criticisms that have trailed his statement on Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai turning a rotten situation into a bad one.

Speaking on Monday in Kaduna during an interactive session with the Arewa Joint Committee, Tinubu declared that those mocking his statement do not understand idioms and synonyms.

It would be recalled that Tinubu on Saturday while speaking at the Kaduna investment summit said: “I am openly begging Governor El-Rufai not to run away for additional Degrees like PhD or others. There are educated derelicts. We are not going to let you run away. Your vision, creativity and resilience in turning a ‘rotten situation into a bad one’ are necessary at this critical time and that is why we are here.”

The statement attracted loads of criticism, particularly from the opposition camps but Tinubu on Monday declared that his statement is not wrong.

He praised El-Rufai for managing the insecurity in Kaduna State effectively and turning around a situation that many people had given up on around.

He said the Kaduna Governor chased away terrorists from the Kaduna forests and made the state livable when many others had given up hope, explaining that that is what it means to turn a rotten situation into a bad one.

3. Buhari Wanted To Set Nnamdi Kanu Free – Ezeife Speaks After Court Order On IPOB Leader

An erstwhile Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife has said that only God would make President Muhammadu Buhari honour the Appeal Court judgement and release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The elder statesman while speaking during an interview with Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Monday wondered why the Federal Government would disobey the court’s ruling when the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, had called off its eight-month-long strike just in obedience to a court.

Ezeife stated that it is only God that has the capability of changing Buhari’s mind.

He explained that he had also gotten good information that Buhari wanted to release Kanu.

Speaking further, he argued the discharged, not acquitted order does not stop the IPOB leader from being set free.

He insisted that the discharge order was enough premise to let Kanu go.

4. 2023: What Peter Obi Said During Visit To Sheikh Gumi

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has said turning Nigeria around will require three core banks in the country.

Naija News reports that the former Governor of Anambra State made this known on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

The LP presidential candidate visited Gumi at his residence in Kaduna in the company of his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed and some party chieftains.

In his speech, Obi stated that the Bank of Agriculture; Bank of Industry and Bank of Infrastructure will contribute the growth of the country.

The former governor said the three banks will make funds easily accessible to SME startups and individuals.

In his remarks, Gumi advised Obi not to let the Obidient movement end after the 2023 elections, urging him to continue to contribute to the development of the nation.

5. 2023: Atiku Sends Message To Buhari Over Attacks On His Supporters

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has called for the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari over reports of attacks on his supporters in some states.

Atiku in a personally signed statement via his Twitter account on Monday lamented the attack on his supporters in Kaduna State, describing it as undemocratic.

He said the attacks are being carried out by sponsored political thugs and called on President Buhari to call all parties, supporters and other stakeholders to order.

Earlier, Atiku also reacted to the attacks on PDP supporters in Zamfara State which reportedly resulted in the death of one person.

The PDP candidate condemned the attack outrightly, commiserated with the affected persons and called on relevant authorities to provide the atmosphere for peaceful campaigns.

6. El-Rufai Recalls Ordeal In Anambra, Speaks On Arresting Peter Obi In Kaduna

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai on Monday recalled how he was arrested and detained in Anambra State in 2013 allegedly by Peter Obi who was the then Governor of the state.

According to El-Rufai, he was in the Southeast state in 2013 as an official of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to witness the bye-election for governorship, only to be harassed by security officials on the order of the State Governor.

The APC chieftain said now he is a sitting Governor in Kaduna State and Obi who is now the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is coming to the state for his consultations ahead of the 2023 elections.

El-Rufai noted that he has all the mechanisms to arrest and detain anyone if he wished, but that he is civilized and would not do such.

Naija News reports that El-Rufai said this while addressing party stakeholders during an Arewa joint committee meeting which had the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima in attendance.

7. 2023: Don’t Blame Me If I Ask For Payback – Tinubu Tells Atiku To Stop Conducting Rallies And Return 2007 Favour

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to step down and endorse him.

The former Lagos state Governor made the call during an interactive session with leaders from the Northern part of the country under the umbrella of the Arewa Joint Committee.

The program which was organized by a coalition of six groups including the Arewa Consultative Forum, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Northern Elders Forum, Jamar Matan Arewa, among others took place at the Arewa House in Kaduna.

The APC flag bearer urged Atiku to remember the good deed he rendered to him in 2007.

He asked the Waziri to return the favour and endorse him.

8. Obi Says Northern Region To Get Premium Place In His Agenda

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has promised the Northern region of the country that they will enjoy a premium place in his agenda if elected president because the wealth of the nation is in the region.

Naija News reports that the LP Candidate in his remark titled ‘The Unmet Needs of the North’, told the Arewa Joint Committee Interactive Session in Kaduna on Monday that the region is strategic to the development plans of Obi-Datti administration if elected President in 2023.

The former Anambra Governor said he intends to pursue aggressive policies, programmes and projects that will enhance the productivity and competitiveness of all the sectors of the Nigerian economy

According to him, Nigeria’s share of the global industry is envisaged to generate over $1 billion by 2025, he, therefore, assured that his administration will ensure very generous deployment and allocation of economic and social projects and infrastructure in the North, with keen attention to roads, energy, power, dams and solar energy from sunlight.

He added that a new Nigeria is feasible and the Nigerian people want solutions to the many problems confronting them.

9. Atiku’s Comment: PDP Owes Nigerians An Apology – Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been asked to apologize to Nigerians over the controversial statements of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike made this call in a statement released on Monday.

Recall that the former Vice President, while addressing northern stakeholders in Kaduna on Saturday, said the north does not need Yoruba or Igbo candidates when it comes to the presidency.

The PDP presidential candidate further stated that the only presidential candidate worthy of taking over the seat in 2023 is him.

Governor Wike in his reaction to Atiku’s statement which has generated heat said while he doubts that Atiku would say such a statement at this critical time in the country, he added that such a comment would justify his fight for equity, justice, and fairness in the PDP.

The Rivers State Governor called on PDP to urgently address the issue and appeal to Nigerians.

He warned that the main opposition party might lose the support of Nigerians if it fails to act.

10. 2023: Dealing With Insecurity Is One Of My Biggest Strengths – Kwankwaso

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has boasted that if elected as Nigeria’s next president, he will address the issues of insecurity bedevilling the country.

Naija News reports that the former governor of Kano State said dealing with insecurity is one of his biggest strengths having served as a Minister of Defense.

Kwankwaso boasted that he will use his wealth of experience from supervising the Ministry of Police Affairs to ensure the safety of the lives of the citizens if he wins the 2023 presidential election.
