Ballon d’Or: Barcelona Wonderkid Gavi Claims Best Young Player Award

Barcelona midfielder, Gavi has won the 2022 Best Young Player Award at the Ballon d’Or.

By winning the Kopa Trophy, Gavi has followed in the footsteps of players like Kylian Mbappe and midfield partner Pedri.

The Kopa trophy was presented to the Barcelona midfielder by teammate and previous winner Pedri at the annual ceremony in Paris.

Former Chelsea forward, Didier Drogba, presented the prize to the young midfielder in both physical and NFT (non-fungible token) form.

The Spaniard beat his competitors, like Jude Bellingham, Bakyo Saka, and Jamal Musiala to win the award.

A ‘very proud’ Pedri returned to the ceremony where he so marvellously claimed the award last year to present the award to his teammate and his friend, he said, “It is a very proud thing to see [Gavi win],”

The recognition comes after a trying week for Gavi and Barcelona, during which they literally lost their chance to advance past the group stage of the Champions League and lost ground to Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga league title.
