PDP Crisis: Throw Jonah Out Of The Ship So The Party Can Be Stabilized - Wike

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has insisted that the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu is the only solution to the crisis rocking the opposition party.

Wike maintained that a southerner should thereafter take over the position of the PDP National Chairman.

He spoke on Friday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Naija News reports.

Speaking on the crisis which has engulfed the party and the decision by himself and his loyalists including some other state governors not to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Wike insisted that the only thing he and his people are asking for is equity, justice and fairness.

According to him, prior to the emergence of Atiku as the PDP presidential candidate, Ayu had promised to step down as the party’s national chairman if the eventual candidate that emerges is from the same zone as himself.

However, he claimed after Atiku’s emergence, Ayu is trying to back out of his commitment which is a sign that he has no integrity.

Wike said, “Take and let me take, there will be peace but if you take everything, there will be problems. Charman should go to the south.

“My stand is for equity, fairness and justice,” he added.

Naija News recalls Governor Wike when he hosted PDP Cross River candidates at his private residence on Wednesday revealed that his grievances against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not about the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Governor also added that he has no issues with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who emerged as the party’s Vice Presidential candidate as well.

Wike however revealed that his anger is against some vested interests within the party whom he described as “hyenas and rent seekers,” that do not want justice, fairness and equity in the party.

Making further explanation, the Rivers Governor said the only thing he wants is the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the PDP National Chairman and his replacement by a southerner.
