Buhari Meets State Governors Over Home Wrecking Floods Across States

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with state governors over the disturbing flood disasters currently affecting some states.

Having exchanged pleasantry with the governors at the State House today, Buhari urged the state leaders to immediately meet with the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, to provide viable solutions to floods wreaking havoc in states.

The Nigerian leader also charged the governors to agree on solutions and escalate their conclusions to the federal government.

Naija News understands that the outgoing Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Chairman and Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi was present at the meeting.

Also at the parley were the incoming Interim Chairman, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, and Interim Deputy Chairman, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi.

In their separate remarks, the governors lamented the situation caused by the floods, noting that it has killed scores of people.

The disaster, according to the governors, has resulted in the loss of homes and farmlands washed away in Kogi, Yobe, Jigawa, and others, and requested special federal funding.

In his remark, Fayemi who leaves office later this month thanked President Buhari for supporting him as Ekiti helmsman, as well as his colleagues.

He said: “You always accorded us due regard. You accommodated us, and listened to our pleas.

“You were always there for us when we had challenges, individually, or collectively. We owe you a debt of gratitude.”

Governor Tambuwal, however, noted that the flooding creates a frightening scenario for food security.

“We need to plan ahead for dry season farming”, said the Sokoto State Governor.

In his remarks, Bagudu called for adequate credit for the agricultural sector because of the peculiar challenges.
