The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Tuesday met with members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt.

The BoT members were in Rivers State as part of efforts to resolve the crisis within the party.

Governor Wike before the commencement of the meeting requested the presence of newsmen in the meeting.

The former presidential aspirant had asked for the presence of pressmen in the meeting to avoid distortion of facts.

He disclosed that over time so many facts have been distorted and this makes it hard for them to explain the details to the press when addressing them.

Wike added that it is better to keep the record straight so that they will know how to solve the problem.

The Rivers State Governor said the presence of pressmen allows them to give a balanced story.

He, however, accepted the appeal of the chairman of the BoT, Adolphus Wabara, who said he preferred that the media be briefed after the meeting.

Wike said if that is what his elders want, he has no problem with their demands.

The Rivers State Governor had said, “But ordinarily that’s not the mindset that I had. My mindset is that I want the press to be here because so many facts have been distorted and that even when we go out to address the press we may not be able to explain the details to the press.

“I believe that one of the things we should do in life is to keep our records straight and so we would know how to solve the problem.

“When they ( press) are there, they hear directly what the person said, it gives a balanced story.

“But if you say so, I have no problems. But frankly speaking, this is what I had in mind.”
