Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Monday 3rd October 2022.

The PUNCH: Aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday met in Enugu to plot their next move, following the visit of the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, in his private residence on Thursday in Abuja. In attendance were Governors Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and the host, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.


The Guardian: Investigations have revealed that over 8,000 stranded overtime cargoes, valued at about N3 trillion, are currently littering the country’s three major seaports – Apapa, Tin Can and Onne – with little or no effort made to find a lasting solution to the nuisance caused by the scraps. Findings revealed that over 2,000 containers are abandoned at Onne port, while 6,000 are in Lagos ports (Tin Can and Apapa). They were abandoned by importers/consignees after the consignments were detained by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officers.


The Nation: The presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, last night, denied speculations about his health and declared that he was not only hale and hearty, but also ready to serve Nigeria.


The Nation: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) is mounting pressure on the national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, to resign as a condition for reconciliation with the aggrieved governors, it was learnt yesterday. Barring last minutes change of mind, the advisory body may ask him to quit for a candidate from the South.


Daily Trust: Cases of abductions went down by 28 per cent across the country in the month of August, in comparison with the preceding month of July, over what a report attributed to the ongoing security forces’ operations. An Abuja-based security risk management and intelligence consulting company, Beacon Consulting, stated this in its latest report for August 2022, a copy of which Daily Trust obtained.
