An ally of Governor Nyesom Wike has reacted to the meeting between the Rivers governor and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News earlier reported that Wike met with the former Vice President on Thursday at the Rivers Governors lodge in Abuja to resolve their lingering crisis rocking the party.
According to DailyTrust, a source revealed the meeting which witnessed the presence of top aides of the duo ended abruptly as Wike reminded Atiku of their conversation in London.
The Rivers governor reminded the PDP candidate that he promised to speak with PDP’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to tender his resignation letter.
According to the source, many of those that followed Atiku to the meeting were not happy with Wike’s response to the reconciliation move.
However, the source said Atiku urged Wike to return fully to the party and work with other chieftains to win the 2023 presiddential election.
Speaking with the newspaper, a member of the Wike camp who craved anonymity, said it will be difficult to convince the allies of the governors to trust Atiku.
He said the presidential candidate has betrayed the agreement they had in London regarding the resignation of the national chairman, stressing that it will be difficult to reach an agreement.
“There is a breach of trust already. The candidate is not known to keep what he says and mean what he says and it is difficult for us to believe whatever is agreed with them, ” he said.
