The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday held the inauguration of its presidential campaign council ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar started his presidential campaign with a launch of his memoirs packaged in three different books.

The former vice president during the inauguration canvassed restructuring of governance.

Atiku said that the system is heavily skewed in favour of the centre, to the detriment of the federating units.

The inauguration was attended by some PDP governors loyal to the presidential ambition of Atiku.

The PDP Governors that attended the event include Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Bayelsa State Governor, Diri Duoye, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who is Atiku’s running mate, and the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan who was listed as a guest of honour was absent from the event.

Jonathan, after been defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, have remained silent on the activities of the PDP.

The former president had stopped attending their events, which recently saw him linked to a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

There were speculations that Jonathan had plans to contest in 2023 under the APC ticket, the rumour was doused after he failed to appear for screening of presidential aspirants.

Governors loyal to the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, which include Samuel Ortom (Benue); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) were absent at the event on Wednesday.
