Chelsea: Lampard Reacts As Mikel Obi Announced Retirement From Football

Former Chelsea player turned coach, Frank Lampard has celebrated his ex-teammate, John Obi Mikel on his retirement from football.

Naija News reports that the former Super Eagles captain, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from playing football.

Obi’s action has since generated a barrage of reactions from sportsmen across the globe as well as his countrymen.

Joining a host of others in reaction, Lampard, who played alongside Obi for the Premier League side, said it was a pleasure playing next to the Nigerian football legend.

Naija News understands that Obi played as a midfielder for Chelsea during his days at the Stamford Bridge.

Recalling the moment he played next to the Nigerian footballer during Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League 2012 final victory over Bayern Munich, Lampard, who is now the current manager for Everton, said sharing 120 minutes with Obi in the Champions League final was a beautiful memory to hold unto .

The Englishman also wished the former Super Eagles star good luck in the near future.

“Congratulations on your amazing career mate. A pleasure playing next to you and sharing that beautiful 120 minutes in Munich with you.

“Good luck for all that’s coming,” Lampard wrote on his Instagram page to celebrate the 35-year-old Nigerian.
