2023: PDP Picks Date, Venue To Inaugurate Presidential Campaign Council

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the time and venue for the inauguration of its presidential campaign council for the 2023 elections.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the party, the inauguration would take place on Wednesday, 28th September at the International Conference Center in Abuja.

The PDP added that those expected at the event include all former Presidents and Vice Presidents, Governors and Former Governors, Serving and former Members of the BoT, Serving and former members of the National Assembly, NEC members and other stakeholders.

APC, Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Kick-off Suspended Indefinitely

Information reaching Naija News on Tuesday morning confirmed that the presidential campaign kick-off of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been suspended indefinitely.

The ruling party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) had earlier scheduled the kick-off of the event for Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

A statement, however, issued on Tuesday morning by the Director-General (DG) of the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima PCC, Governor Simon Lalong, revealed that the party is making some adjustments to its timetable to accommodate the growing interests of party loyalists.

A new date for the kick-off of the campaign would be communicated soon according to the Plateau State Governor.

APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Morgan Drops Statistics, Says Northern Christians Are Not Minority

A Christian leader from the northern part of the country, AVM Monday Morgan (rtd) has countered the narrative in some quarters that Christians are a minority in the north.

Speaking against the backdrop of the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential election, he argued that the party may regret its action which he described as cocky and aloof.

Naija News reports Morgan made his mind known on Tuesday during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today in which he submitted that Christians are no push aside when it comes to their voting power.

According to him, in Adamawa State Christians are not below 80%, in Taraba State, Christians are not below 75%, in Plateau State Christians are not below 85%.

He added that in Benue State Christians are not below 90%, in Kogi State we speak 50-50 and In Kwara, we can say Muslim 60%, Christians 40%.

Morgan stated that though he doesn’t have the statistics for Kano, Kaduna state is like 40-60.

“That Is My Hustle…” – Nnamani Speaks On Working For Tinubu, Dumping PDP After Inclusion In APC Campaign Council

The Senator representing Enugu East in the National Assembly, Chimaroke Nnamani has spoken out amidst the controversy that has trailed his ‘political romance’ with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News recalls that eyebrows were raised when it was discovered that a chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Governor of Enugu State, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani has been appointed into the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

Amidst the ongoing political drama, a question was posed on Tuesday to the lawmaker by a Twitter user identified as Henry Shield about his political loyalty.

Nnamani was asked directly if he was working for Tinubu.

However, in response, the former Governor said he is a PDP Senator, loyal to the party and campaigning for the same party.

He wrote: “I am a PDP Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone. That is my Hustle at the moment. I am loyal to my Party and already campaigning for same.”

‘Stop It Immediately’ – Northern Christian Elders Send Strong Warning To Tinubu, APC

The Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu against using their financial power to cause division amongst Christians.

The group warned the ruling party to desist from dangling money at Christians to curry their electoral favour.

The group stated this via a statement issued by its chairman, Engineer Oyinehi Ejoga Inalegwu, on Tuesday.

Speaking further, the group recalled that in 2011, Bola Ahmed Tinubu sought a Muslim-Muslim Ticket with Atiku Abubakar and it was rejected.

They said that he also sought the same faith ticket with President Muhammadu Buhari and it was also rejected.

2023: Adebanjo Promoting Personal Agenda Against Tinubu – Keyamo

The spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, has berated the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, for his support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Naija News reports that Keyamo was reacting to Afenifere’s justification of its endorsement of the former Governor of Anambra State for the 2023 Presidency.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, Adebanjo said the group would not support the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

However, in an interview with reporters on Monday evening, Keyamo accused Adebanjo of promoting his agenda against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Keyamo said Adebanjo is free to support anyone he likes in furtherance of his democratic right, adding that the elder statesman does not speak for the Yorubas.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment added that Adebanjo is just a factional member of Afenifere, stressing that there was no time the Yoruba group met to endorse Obi.

Obi Group Fixes Date To Hold 4-million-man Rally In Lagos

A Peter Obi-Yussuf Datti support group, under the aegis of Lagos4ObiDatti, has announced plans to hold a 4-million-man march in Lagos State on October 1.

The spokesman of the Lagos4ObiDatti Central Organizing Committee, Christopher Ademuyiwa, stated this on Monday during a press conference at the National Art Theater, Lagos.

Ademuyiwa said the march would hold simultaneously in three different locations in Lagos, namely Admiralty gate Lekki Phase 1; Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, GRA, Ikeja; and at FHA field on 23 road, Festac.

He pointed out that plans have been made to have buses transport Obidients to and from their locations, and the bus pickup points will be released on social media.

Ademuyiwa, however, refuted any attempt to link the Lagos rally to the 2020 #EndSars Movement, adding that the march is legal and constitutional.

Festus Keyamo Reacts As Campaign Poster Of Tinubu And Nnamani Of PDP Emerges

The spokesman for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo on Tuesday, shared an intriguing campaign poster on his social media account.

Naija News reports the poster features the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu on one side and the Enugu East senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Chimaroke Nnamani on the other side.

The poster has a caption, “Ebeano 4 Tinubu 2023.”

Reacting, Keyamo described the development as a confirmation of friendship across divides.

He wrote on his Twitter account as caption for the image; “Talk of friendship across tribal divides!!”

‘My Husband Eats And Breathes LP But I’m Loyal To APC’ – Actress Foluke Daramola

Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola, has declared she is loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite her husband being a staunch member of the Labour Party (LP).

Naija News reports that Foluke during a recent interview shared on her Instagram page noted that the different political affiliation between her and her husband, Kayode Salako is no cause for worry.

The actress who was recently appointed to the presidential campaign council of the APC said her husband’s role as the Lagos State chairman of LP will not affect her support for Bola Tinubu.

Foluke noted that her husband is not autocratic as he respects her decision and belief to follow the APC structure.

The actress further stated that Tinubu is her father, considering the role that he and his wife, Oluremi, played during her wedding and traditional engagement.

Foluke added that she has a rich history with the APC flagbearer and her recent appointment is not just a normal assignment for her.

2023: Yoruba Elders React As Afenifere Endorses Peter Obi

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has dissociated itself from the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi by Afenifere.

Naija News reported that the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Ayo Adebanjo on Monday restated his support for the former Governor of Anambra State.

According to Adebanjo, the South West has produced a president and also the current vice president, while the south-south spent six years in the presidency.

He, however, stated that the South-East have never tasted presidency in Nigeria, adding that now that power has been rotated to the South, it is right for it to go to the Igbo.

In an interview with Vanguard on Monday, Secretary-General of YCE, Dr Kunle Olajide, said the elders are not aligned to Afenifere supporting Obi.

Olajide disclosed that the elders will meet and make their position known on which presidential candidate to support in 2023.

Why We Decided To Support Tinubu – NNPP Candidates Speak

Four disgruntled national Assembly candidates contesting 2023 elections on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State have said that their decision to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate indicates the collapsed structure of the NNPP in the state.

Naija News recalls that the four NNPP candidates; Clement Bamigbola, Osun Central Senatorial, Bolaji Akinyode, Osun West Senatorial, Olalekan Fabayo, and Oluwaseyi Ajayi of Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila, and Ijesa South Federal Constituencies respectively, had dumped NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso for Tinubu, citing lack of transparency in the running of their party at the national level.

The state caretaker chairman of the party, Abdusalam Abiola alleged that the four candidates that declared support for the APC flag bearer were like liabilities that would not be missed by the NNPP.

Reacting to Abiola’s statement, the group, via a press release signed by their leader, Bamigbola said that they stood by Tinubu because the structure of the NNPP was shaky and the acting chairman’s statement indicated that his knowledge of politics was substandard

‘Presidential Candidates Afenifere Supported In 2015, 2019 Lost’ – Keyamo Mocks Obi

The spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo has reacted to the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi by Afenifere.

The APC presidential campaign spokesman further stated that the Yoruba socio-cultural group in 2019 endorsed Atiku who was also defeated by Buhari.

PDP In Crisis Over Melaye, Bwala’s Appointment As Campaign Spokespersons

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been struck with a fresh crisis over the appointment of the former lawmaker, Dino Melaye and Daniel Bwala as the spokesperson for the party’s presidential campaigns.

Recall that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on different occasions appointed Melaye and Bwala as spokespersons.

The crisis in the party is coming less than 24 hours before the commencement of the 2023 presidential campaign.

Melaye and Bwala were both former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the PDP.

The former lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District had returned to PDP in 2018, while Bwala joined the party in July 2022, a week before his appoint­ment by Atiku.

A source that spoke on the crisis with Daily Independent said Melaye and Bwala’s appointment has caused disquiet in the party.

According to the source, chieftains in the party are angry with Atiku for ignoring loyal members to pick APC decampees who had attacked PDP at a time.

The chieftains who claimed that Melaye and Bwala lack the skills required for spokespersons added that the duo are trying to correct the bad statements they made about PDP in the past.

2023: Tinubu’s Desperate Ambition Not Good For Democracy – Utomi

A chieftain of the Labour Party, Professor Pat Utomi, has described the ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as a desperate one.

Utomi stated this on Monday during an appearance on a programme, Politics Today, on Channels Television, Naija News reports.

The political economist asserted that Tinubu’s desperate ambition to become president is injurious to Nigeria’s democracy and must be resisted.

Utomi pointed out that the slogan of the APC Presidential candidate “Emilokan” is dangerous and selfish, saying that the 2023 presidency is about Nigerians and an individual.

The Igbos Were Against Obasanjo Presidency, But It Is Time For Them To Rule – Olu Falae

An Afenifere chieftain, Chief Olu Falae has said that the next president of Nigeria should be of Igbo descent.

Falae said that he would be supporting the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the upcoming 2023 election.

He, however, stated that he was unaware of the position of the Afenifere on the LP presidential candidate.

The former Minister of Finance said that though he supports Igbo presidency, the Yoruba are not morally obliged to do the same.

Speaking further, Falae explained that he had to defeat Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife in the Alliance for Democracy to become the candidate for the AD/APP while Olusegun Obasanjo had to defeat Dr. Alex Ekuweme in the PDP to become a candidate.

2023: INEC Explains How A President Will Emerge If There Is Tie Between Candidates During Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained that a run-off election will be conducted to produce an outright winner should there be a tie during the 2023 presidential election.

INEC explained that the second election will be between the person with the highest votes and the person with the spread, but not necessarily the second highest votes scored.

The INEC national commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Festus Okoye explained this in Lagos on Monday during the two-day media capacity-building workshop on the commission’s progresses, innovations, preparations for the 2023 general elections and critical issues in the Electoral Act 2022.

Okoye said for whoever would emerge as the next president of Nigeria, such a person must score the highest number of votes and the required two-thirds spread in the 36 States of the federation as contained in the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
