The presidency on Monday, refuted claims that President Muhammadu Buhari has given instructions for the removal of Festus Keyamo (SAN) as the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

The denial was contained in a statement by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu.

According to the statement, both President Buhari and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu are happy with what Keyamo is doing.

Shehu added that those sponsoring the reports against Keyamo are agents of fake news and political opponents scared of the APC’s rising profile ahead of the commencement of campaigns for the 2023 elections.

The statement reads: “The news that President Muhammadu Buhari has called for the removal of Festus Keyamo, SAN as a spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Council is fake news.

“Both President Buhari and the Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu are happy with the job Keyamo is doing, and with the general set up of the impending campaign, which has already become an example for other parties.

“We are aware that conspiracy theories are being hatched with a ripple effect to defame our party leaders and hold back the campaign. Supporters of our candidates should not pay attention to “news” from these fountains of false narratives.”

I Remain The Spokesperson

Earlier, Naija News reported that Keyamo himself has denied a report that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered his removal as the spokesman of the All Progressives Congres (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

In a tweet on Monday via his Twitter handle, Keyamo refuted the report that President Buhari has ordered his removal, describing it as fake news.

He accused the opposition of planting fake stories to destabilise the ranks of the ruling party, saying that the move was the height of the panic mode.

He wrote: “Very funny fake news. When people feel uncomfortable with the uncompromising defence of your mandate, they promote such fake news to achieve a purpose. The opposition thinks they can plant stories to destabilise our ranks. This is the height of the panic mode they find themselves.”
