Egypt Considers Bid To Host 2036 Olympics

The 2036 Olympic Games might be hosted in Africa, in Egypt particularly if the country’s request is granted, Naija News reports.

The northeastern African country is said to have expressed its will by applying to host the next summer Olympic games.

Egypt’s sports minister, Ashraf Sobhi disclosed the plan on Saturday during a reception for IOC president Thomas Bach in Cairo, Naija News understands.

“President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has given his permission for Egypt to put itself forward as host for the 2036 Olympics,” AFP quoted Sobhi as saying.

According to him, if the request is granted, Egypt would become the first African or Arab nation to host the Olympics.

“Egypt has solid sporting infrastructures and if it can host the Olympic Games, it will be historic,” Bach said during a joint press conference with Sobhi.

An Egyptian official announced earlier in the month that Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia were in talks to jointly host the 2030 World Cup.

Recall that Egypt staged the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as last year’s handball world championship during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nigerian NBA Coach Faces Disciplinary Action For Cheating On His Wife

A Nigerian Boston Celtics coach, Ime Udoka is facing disciplinary action for having an affair with a staff member. The 45-year-old coach has been married to Hollywood actress Nia Long since 2010.

According to a Wednesday night report by ESPN, the Nigerian coach faces possible suspension for the intimate affairs considered to be a violation of the organization’s guidelines.

While no final decision has been made, internal discussions have included scenarios that would keep Udoka out for the entirety of the 2022-23 season, sources said.

However, the source said that there are no indications that Udoka’s job is in serious jeopardy.

Udoka’s top assistant coach, Will Hardy, left to become coach of the Utah Jazz, and another Jazz finalist, Celtics assistant Joe Mazzulla, would likely be in serious consideration for an interim role, sources told ESPN.

According to ESPN Stats & Information research, Udoka is the first rookie coach to win multiple Game 7s in his first postseason.
