A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has berated a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Bode George, over his constant attacks on former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Metuh, a member of the party’s National Executive Committee, also accused George of working against the party’s presidential candidate, adding that his hatred for Atiku is now visible.

He was reacting to the move by the camp of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to withdraw from the party’s campaign council and support Atiku’s campaign activities until the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, resigns from his position.

Naija News reports that the Wike camp made the decisions at a strategic meeting held in Port Harcourt in the early hours of Wednesday.

In a communique read by George, the Wike camp insisted that its members will not work with Atiku until Ayu resigns and allow an acting Chairman from the South to lead the party.

George stated that the Wike camp stated that their position was not negotiable as the continued stay of Ayu as the part chairman undermines the unity and constitution of the party.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Metuh said George has been consistent in his advocacy for the South to take over the party leadership.

The former PDP spokesman said Atiku would go on with the campaigns and shame the detractors that want him to fail in the 2023 presidential election.

Metuh also disclosed that Atiku has no power to remove Ayu, adding that the crisis in the party could worsen if the national chairman resigns.

He said: “Bode George has been consistent in his advocacy for the South but Nigeria is made up of the South and North. He has also been consistent in his hatred for Atiku.

“Atiku will go on with the campaigns because not doing so would be a victory for those who don’t want him to succeed. Truth is, Atiku has no power to remove Ayu.’’
