The camp of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has reacted to the recognition of the faction led by the Vice Chairman, South-South of the PDP, Dan Orbih, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Naija News had reported that INEC on Tuesday recognised the list of candidates produced by a faction loyal to Orbih in the party primaries held in May.

Recall that the Orbih and Obaseki factions had held different primaries that produced candidates for different elective positions.

This development had resulted in litigation and judgments from different courts.

But a list released by INEC at its state office in Benin revealed that all the candidates on the list are the ones who emerged winners at the primaries conducted by the Orbih’s faction.

In the published list, the electoral agency remarked that its action was ordered by the court.

Reacting to the development, PDP State Chairman, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, said the electoral agency is just obeying the court order to publish the names of the candidates.

Aziegbemi said until the candidates exhaust all their cases in court, there cannot be a final opinion on this.

He, however, urged members of the Obaseki’s faction to remain calm and await the final court decision on the matter.

He said, “I am sure you know that there are court cases pending. INEC is obeying the court order by publishing these names, but until the candidates exhaust all their cases in court, there cannot be a final opinion on this.
