National Assembly on Wednesday screened the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Naija News recalls that the president of the 9th assembly, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, had disclosed this while addressing the lawmakers earlier following their resumption from their annual summer recess that Ariwoola would be screened for the position.

The screening is in order of President Muhammadu Buhari‘s directive following the resignation of former CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.

On Wednesday morning, Lawan called for the screening exercise to be moved forward from where it was listed on the order paper.

The motion for the screening was immediately moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir.

Gobir moved that the Senate should resort to the Committee of the Whole to conduct the screening as well as suspend its relevant rules to admit the acting CJN Ariwoola and his entourage into the chambers.

The delegation according to reports was led by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare.

Subsequently, Ariwoola and all Justices of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal, President of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court and Secretary of the National Judicial Council, walked into the chambers and took their seats.

Naija News learnt that Justice Ariwoola answered all the questions asked by the Senators and he was asked by the President of the Senate to take a bow at 12.45 pm.

He is however waiting for confirmation where the Senators will go to the Committee of the whole.
